Since its inauguration in August 2017, the Hyatt Centric Guatemala Hotel has set out to disseminate the country’s cultural and natural heritage, sharing with the visitor photographs, handicrafts, contemporary art by recognized artists and Maya Pre-Columbian art. Among its objectives, La Ruta Maya Foundation and Hyatt Centric exhibit, on a semi-permanent loan, a collection of Pre-Columbian objects.
This collection, duly registered in the Registry of Cultural Property as a National Cultural Heritage, enriches other collections that illustrate the artistic wealth of the country. The Pre-Columbian works of art include Teotihuacan-style incense burners from the Pacific coast of Guatemala, a collection of stone axes and a selection of pottery vessels and figurines.
As part of its dissemination activities, the Foundation held two training days (August 2017 and April 2018) with the aim of sharing the cultural heritage of Guatemala to the hotel staff so they can interpret it to the visitors that come to our country. The hotel lobby is open to the public and thus contributes to the policy of cultural dissemination.
